Henry S. Miller Interests, Inc. traces its corporate roots back to 1914 with the founding of the Henry S. Miller Company by Henry S. Miller, Sr. Henry S. Miller, Sr. was born in 1890. His grandfather operated a small grocery store on the banks of the Trinity River which became the family business. Anxious to enter the business world on his own, Henry S. Miller, Sr. left school at age 14 and went to work for Sanger Brothers (now Foley's), the leading wholesale and retail dry goods business in Texas. He began his real estate career as a commissioned salesman for Davidson-Davis and Co., and later, Flippen-Prather Realty in Highland Park. In 1919, Miller, Sr. opened a one-man real estate brokerage office.
Henry S. Miller, Jr., shared his father's business ambition and began his career in life insurance sales at the end of his freshman year at Southern Methodist University. He continued to sell life insurance while obtaining his degree. In 1938, father and son joined forces and opened a general insurance agency as a part of the real estate office. Volunteering in 1941 for service in the U.S. Army, Henry S. Miller, Jr. served in Italy and Africa. After WWII, he rejoined the company as a real estate salesman. Six years later, he and his Father formed a partnership and added three salesman to the company. In 1953, the company received the exclusive leasing and assignment for Texas' first regional shopping mall which leased in record time, and thus became the first company to offer specialized real estate services.
The Miller Co. was incorporated in 1960 with $10,000 in capital. Henry S. Miller, Jr. was named President and Chief Executive Officer. The incorporation was the first important action taken to place the company on the path of rapid growth.
In 1963, Henry S. Miller Management Company was formed. The corporation ranked as one of the largest property management companies in the southwest with a portfolio of managed office buildings, industrial facilities, multi-family properties and retail centers. Later additions to the Miller Companies include Henry S. Miller Appraisal Corporation and Henry S. Miller Residential Corporation.
In 1968, Henry S. Miller, Sr. died at the age of 78.
1969 marked the formation of the Retail Division of the company which became recognized as the leader in the shopping center industry.
In 1976, The Howard Corporation enlisted the help of the Henry S. Miller Company to sell the historic Highland Park Village Shopping Center. Henry S. Miller, Jr. became attracted to the shopping center's unrealized potential. Mr. Miller, Jr. and several of his partners bought the property in 1976 for $5 million, a small portion of the money eventually invested in its renovation and refurbishing.
In 1991, Henry S. Miller Interests, (HSMI) was formed as a property and asset management firm for specialty shopping centers. HSMI offers complete turn-key, cost effective management services ranging from lease negotiation, overall property management and center marketing to any level of tax and financial reporting that may be required by the ownership.
The management portfolio of Henry S. Miller Interests, Inc. currently consists of shopping centers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area including America's first shopping center, Highland Park Village; Preston Royal Village; Frankford Market; Montfort Plaza; Country Place; and Custer Square.
Progressing through eight decades from a one-man commercial real estate operation, Henry S. Miller Interests, Inc. continues to carry the legacy of integrity, principals and ethics established in 1914 by Henry S. Miller, Sr.
